Petros multi-fuel station in Sarawak serving gasoline, diesel, electric or hydrogen vehicles
Earlier this month, Petroleum Sarawak (Petros) launched multi-fuel station in Darul Hana, which caters to vehicles running on conventional fossil fuels (gasoline and diesel), electric or hydrogen.
Such an idea isn’t exactly new, as we’ve already seen electric vehicle (EV) chargers in the works added to existing gas stations here, technically making them multi-fuel. However, the new Petros station better integrates various refueling options and has hydrogen fuel supplies, something Sarawak focused on as it transitioned to hydrogen economy.
As you can see in the live photos provided by Gregory Bajien of Sarawak Economic Development Energy Corporation (SEDC), the layout of the station is not much different from what we are familiar with.
Most pumps are dedicated to fossil fuels, be it gasoline and/or diesel, but at one end of the station there is a standard multi-EV charger from Exicom that can generate up to 22 kW AC (alternative current) capacity and up to 60 kW d.c. (d.c. current). The first is delivered via a Type 2 plug, while the second has two types of plugs: CCS2 and CHAdeMO.
There are also three other EV chargers from ChargEV in front of the Oasis convenience store, each capable of delivering 22 kW of AC power, although no charging cable is included. Hydrogen fuel will also be available in the future and will likely be used to support various pilot projects in the state related to hydrogen bus and Hyundai Nexo cars – extremely limited options for car buyers today.
There you have it, a virtual tour of the Petros multi-fuel station, which will be one of the few that will be set up in Sarawak, with others to be set up in Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri, like along the Pan Borneo Highway and the Sarawak Coastal Highway.
