Peloton wanted users to know its home exercise equipment could improve a person’s physical well-being – without leading to health complications, which was implied by the “Sex and the City” reboot. ” above HBO Max.

The company issued a response on its Twitter account on Sunday about a plot in “Sex and the City” that sent the company’s stock plummeting last week, piling up into a recent sell-off. The stock is down about 75% so far, and it hit a 52-week low of $37.67 on Friday.

(The sequel to this story contains a trailer for the first episode of “And just like that…”.)

In the widely shared “Sex and the City” scene, “one of the main characters of “And Just Like That…”, Mr. Big, died of a heart attack after attending a Peloton drag class 45 minutes long.

In the Peloton parody commercial, Jess King – the Peloton instructor depicted on the HBO show – sits down with Mr. Big, played by “Sex and the City” actor Chris Noth, after he got up from a fall and asked him if he’d like to take another class on Bicycles.

“I feel great,” Noth said in Peloton’s video. “Shall we take another trip? Life’s too short, isn’t it.”

Then, actor and director Ryan Reynolds voiced: “And just like that, the world was reminded that regular cycling stimulates and improves your heart, lungs, and circulation… Cycling… strengthen your heart muscle, decrease resting heart rate and lower blood fat levels. He’s still alive.”

The entire incident put together in less than 48 hours and was filmed in New York City, according to a Peloton spokesperson.

Reynolds also shared the video online Sunday in a Tweet that read: “Not shown warning.”

Peloton CEO John Foley also tweeted on Sunday, “He’s still alive.”

The “Sex and the City” scene appeared when Peloton was slashed in recent weeks Its full year forecast and frozen recruitment, amid slowing demand for their products. Peloton faces stiff competition from other home-fitness companies but also from gym chains that are attracting returning users.

Peloton is a big beneficiary of the pandemic, as people are stuck at home and looking for ways to maintain healthy habits. Its shares also benefited, rising more than 440% in 2020.

For now, however, investors fear that future growth will be difficult to achieve and will entail greater costs.

Peloton has faced other troubles in recent months, including regulatory oversight. Company announced a voluntary recall of its treadmills in May, after reports of one death and dozens of injuries. It also hundreds of dollars off its original bike, hope to attract more people with discount.

While Peloton said it worked with HBO to put one of its Bikes on “And Just Like That…”, they said the network didn’t reveal the plot in advance for “security reasons.” “.

A spokesperson for HBO did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.

BMO Capital Markets analyst Simeon Siegel, who issued a note to clients last week saying his role in “Sex and the City” could indicate potential trouble with the brand, said that asking Reynolds helping with video feedback was a smart move. (Reynolds previously solicited the actress in the infamous “Peloton Wife” commercial. starred in an advertisement for his Aviation Gin brand.)

“Someone who doesn’t love Reynolds,” Siegel said. “Better to have Ryan on Team Peloton than against.”

Still, Siegel said he wondered how much the company spent pulling production together so quickly.

Either way, it’s worth understanding how much a Reynolds-Chris Noth trailer costs, he said.
