German researchers warn fine particle pollution from barbecues could be dangerous to the public
Most of us know that there is an ongoing campaign to drive humans away from meat and towards a more suitable diet for cows. Activists say this will be much gentler on our weather and climate systems. Meat eating is destroying the planet and it’s time for humans to stop it.
Now it’s German MDR public broadcast here introduced Another reason why we should avoid meat – especially barbecue: summer barbecues are polluting our air with fine particles that are dangerous to human health!
According to researchers in Leipzig, the measurements were carried out using instruments carried in backpacks in the cities of Leipzig and Dresden (Germany). The researchers found that, sometimes, pollution levels from barbecues are even worse than pollution from heavy street traffic.
According to the research team leader, Jens Voigtländer,
“First, we determined that on days during and around public holidays, in the evenings, an increased concentration can often be observed, coming from areas near entertainment venues; there are small gardens and parks. The effects we see are local and short-term. That means we see them one day and one day we don’t. It’s a very short-term effect. […]
People should ask themselves if baking constantly or too often is healthy.”
Now we need to worry about the risks of that summer barbecue that so many of us enjoy.
The MDR does not provide any background information as to why such a study was conducted in the first place.
Indoor cooking and most general indoor activities also produce large amounts of fine particulate contamination, possibly in greater concentrations. It’s a mystery why people run around with super sensitive devices, looking for every tiny particle and then worrying that it could be a risk to our health.
