Panel: Which fighter would you rather watch than any other in 2022 and why?
Michael Conlan (Feather Candidate)
Jessie “Bam” Rodriguez. What a warrior! The child has unbelievable skills and maturity for someone so young. He’s very interesting and also won KOs, which can be few and far between in lighter weight. In my opinion, a future pound-for-pound talent.
Wayne Alexander (Former European Super Welding Champion)
I enjoyed watching Josh Kelly this year. After being convincingly beaten by David Avanesyan in 2021, he changed his mind and came back well with three wins by a margin – especially against Troy Williamson, who was unbeaten and looks very impressive. Josh controlled that title match from the first round to the last using good skill and timing. He won easily and turned into a normal looking Troy
Jordan Gill (Former European Featherweight Champion)
For me, “Bam” Rodriguez is really fun to watch. I like his fan-friendly style and appreciate the technicality of his attacks behind his subtle footwork and feints. He’s my breakout talent for 2022 and I’m looking forward to seeing what he creates in 2023 and beyond.
Ryan Walsh (Former Featherweight Champion)
“Canelo” Alvarez. He is a villain fighter who dared to confront Dmitry Bivol brilliantly. Even though his duel with Gennady Golovkin came a few years late, he’s still one of the few boxers that I would wake up to watch at a stupid clock in the morning. His second match against GGG was one of the best I’ve ever seen – at 6am for sure!
