For the uninitiated, a nepo baby — aka nepotism baby — is a somewhat derogatory label that describes people who follow in their celebrity parents’ footsteps. The name suggests that the stars’ more famous parents have a major role to play in driving them to success, as opposed to others who aren’t born into fame and have to navigate the game on their own.

On Tuesday, O’Shea started a Twitter thread by talking about how he played his father in Straight Outta Comptonhe still had to audition for the role “for two years before getting the part.”

He continued, saying that he still had to “get” [his] a** got up and worked” despite his father’s help.
“I had to get up and make it work. From the roles I chose. The work ethic I put into them. My professionalism on set and promotional trips. Even left HIS company and found a group of his own. Once the door was opened, I had to step through it and grow.”
But none of them. NOBODY. BELONG TO. THAT. Happened that way without my father’s love. The work he put in brought us to a place of opportunity. And for me to ignore that or not accept and use as a guide would be stupid and disrespectful. I am grateful and I use his teachings on a daily basis.
