Oscar De La Hoya posted a photo on Instagram on Tuesday night of himself and star boxer Ryan Garcia. Both men were pointing at the paper in De La Hoya’s hand. “Verified,” De La Hoya posted alongside the photo. “The devil is in the details. April 15 let’s go!!! @kingryan @gervontaa.” The hint here is clear – a contract for the highly anticipated match between Garcia and undefeated star Gervonta Davis is now owned by Golden Boy promoter De La Hoya and is about to be signed.

De La Hoya previously indicated a super fight between Garcia and Davis is likely to happen in the spring. This is certainly a welcome relief to those who read a tweet De La Hoya posted on Sunday. “I don’t have a contract,” De La Hoya declared at the time. “The deadline for me is Monday or I will move on. #DavisGarcia. Long story short – De La Hoya has appealed to Team Davis for not sending under contract for a Davis-Garcia match, and is letting people know (or pretending to let everyone know) that he He was sitting and drinking.

Fortunately, the Hall of Fame boxer turned out to be a much better-promising promoter on Tuesday. “I have a meeting for literally two hours with Ryan Garcia,” he told TMZ, “and I should be looking at my email right now. I should have the contract for the fight so I’m looking forward to putting it together and hopefully soon. That announcement, if it does come, will be welcome news for fans, especially given the recent flop between boxers Terence Crawford and Errol Spence.

Certainly, De La Hoya is now looking very confident that the much-anticipated David-Garcia match will soon come to fruition. “I am actually very optimistic that this fight will be on April 15th,” he told TMZ. “It’s the biggest that can be done.” In it, De La Hoya was right. Both Davis and Garcia are young, explosive and very powerful. They are also quite popular. Garcia is a social media powerhouse while Davis sells out locations due to normal business.

“No one backs down,” De La Hoya continued. “The contract is coming. I’ll tell you one thing, Ryan Garcia wants to knock him down a lot. He called it in two rounds. I really believed it but then again, I thought of Tank Davis, a monster. He is an animal! He’s a great fighter.”

Looks like De La Hoya was wearing a promoter’s hat. “Both of them are at their peak,” he said. “Both of them are undefeated. It’s going to be a great game, and you know what, in two hours we’re going to make it happen.”
