Lomachenko had to leave the war in Ukraine to secure the fight for Kambosos
Vasiliy Lomachenko will have to leave Ukraine soon if he wants to secure a fight with George Kambosos Jr this summer.
Lomachenko has agreed to fight the three-belt lightweight champion on June 5 in Melbourne.
However, any such proposal was put on hold after the Ukrainian decided to return home to play a combat role against Russia’s aggression towards his country.
Lomachenko along with WBC champion Devin Haney were the runners up to the Kambosos challenge but Mike Coppinger of ESPN reported that an opponent must be decided by the end of the month to allow enough time for advancing the fight.
Efforts are underway to try to get Lomachenko out of Ukraine to begin training. Lomachenko and heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk are just two men from thousands of non-military people who took up arms to join the fight against Russia.
Should Lomachenko fail to leave Ukraine in time, attention will turn to securing an undisputed lightweight title between Kambosos and Haney.
