Origin of atmospheric rivers and latest forecasts. My New Podcast
My new podcast on the origin and importance of atmospheric rivers. As I have described, atmospheric rivers are relatively narrow streams of water vapor extending out of the tropics and subtropics into mid-latitudes (see example below for Monday morning).

Atmospheric rivers are the result of a specific atmospheric configuration with a lower pressure trough to the north and a higher pressure peak to the south.
As streams of moisture associated with atmospheric rivers make landfall, massive amounts of rain could be released, as illustrated by Monday’s 12-hour precipitation forecast (below).
