It’s time to be transparent about the embedded costs of going “Green” – Is it increasing with that?

Supplies to support the “green” cause of environmental degradation, human atrocities and increased emissions, are not transparent to the green movement.

The worldwide movement towards electrification of everything from the uninterruptible electricity of industrial wind and solar farms, to more electric vehicles, political actions in favor of jumping on the green train, most likely don’t know there is a dark side to green technologyrelated to environmental degradation, human cruelty and other material costs.

Recently report of the International Energy Agency (IEA) notes: “A typical electric car requires six times more mineral inputs than a conventional car, and an onshore wind power plant requires nine times more mineral resources than a powered plant. gas”.

  • Nickel: A major component of EV batteries, found just below the topsoil in the Rainforests of Indonesia and the Philippines. As a result, nickel is mined by horizontal surface mining leading to widespread environmental degradation: deforestation and removal of the top soil layer.
  • Lithium: More than half of the world’s lithium reserves are found in three South American countries bordering the Andes: Chile, Argentina and Bolivia. These countries are collectively known as the “Lithium Triangle”.
  • Cobalt: The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) produces 70% of the world’s Cobalt. While there is no shortage of environmental problems with Cobalt mining, the most important here are human rights: hazardous working conditions and the use of child labor. Cobalt is a toxic metal. Long-term exposure to and inhalation of cobalt dust can lead to eye, skin and lung health problems.
  • Copper: Chile is the world’s leading producer of Copper. Most of Chile’s Copper comes from opencast/strip mines. This type of mining negatively affects vegetation, topsoil, wildlife habitat, and groundwater. The next three largest copper producers are Peru, China and the infamous Democratic Republic of the Congo.

For the last few decades, policy has been dominated by fanatical dreamers that the world could survive and prosper with intermittent and unreliable electricity generated by wind and sunlight. , and so far, they have succeeded in destroying livelihoods causing shortages, inflation, and undermining the nation. Guard. It’s time to look back at fracking, nuclear, and focus on conservation, efficiency improvement, and adaptation. It’s time to get serious about climate and electricity.

Most of the world’s population is not transparent about human rights violations and environmental degradation happening in developing countries with yellow, brown and black people. Both human rights abuses and environmental degradation are directly linked to the extraction of exotic minerals and metals needed to manufacture wind turbines, solar panels, and EV batteries.

An electric vehicle battery doesn’t “generate” electricity – it just stores electricity produced elsewhere, mainly from coal, uranium, plants that run on natural gas, and sometimes with unrelated wind and sun. customary. So, saying EV is a zero-emission vehicle is completely invalid because 80% of the electricity generated to charge batteries comes from coal, natural gas and nuclear.

  1. From Twenty percent of electricity generated in the US comes from coal-fired power plantswhereby twenty percent of EVs on the road are coal-fired.
  2. From Forty percent of electricity generated in the United States is from natural gaswhereby forty percent of EVs on the road are powered by natural gas.
  3. From Twenty percent of the electricity generated in the US comes from nuclearwhereby twenty percent of EVs on the road are nuclear powered.

To make the embedded costs of being “green” to the world, the book highlights how Asians and Africans, many of them children from poor and unhealthy countries, are being arrested. enslaved and dying in mines and factories to obtain exotic minerals and metals needed for green energy technologies to make EV batteries, solar panels, wind turbines and storage batteries utility scale.

The United States can promote sustainable mining in those developing countries to restore the land to a healthy ecosystem after the mine closes and by leaving the surrounding communities with wealth and education. , healthcare and infrastructure they had before the mine went live. Like mining in the United States, mining in developing countries should be the goal of corporate social responsibility and the result of successful ecological restoration of the landscape.

America’s obsession with green electricity to reduce emissions must be ethical and should not promote human rights and abuse the environment abroad, providing exotic minerals and metals to support the passion America’s green passion. And before we get rid of crude oil, the greens need to identify an alternative or duplicate to crude oil, to keep today’s societies and economies functioning with more 6,000 products currently built using derivatives produced from crude oil, along with fuel to transport the long-range and high-weight needs of more than 50,000 jets and more than 50,000 merchant ships, as well as programs military and space program.
