One year on, here’s why TPG employees love the Capital One Venture X
The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card entered the market a year ago with grand plans to disrupt the premium travel card industry. I’m a fan and I’ve taken advantage of almost every benefit on the card since I opened it. It’s also quickly becoming my favorite card for everyday spending thanks to the 2 miles/dollar I get on every purchase.
It’s hard not to love a card offers a lot of valueincluding an annual $300 statement credit (plus up to 10 miles per dollar) on purchases through Capital One Travel, access to over 1,400 airport lounges worldwide, 10,000 miles anniversary rewards, and more.
The best part? This is available for a annual fee only $395 – much lower than competitors.

All of these benefits look great on paper, but I put Venture X through its paces this year – and it has earned a place in my wallet in the long run.
My first year with Venture X
The sign-up bonus is just one of the reasons why I jumped at the opportunity to add Venture X to my wallet. Sure, the current offer is worth $750 when used directly to buy travelbut here at TPG, we lock in those 75,000 miles at close to 1,400 dollars if you use Capital One’s excellent transfer partners strategically.
Here’s how I’ve made the most of Venture X since I opened the account earlier this year:
- Received a $300 statement credit for airline tickets booked through Capital One Travel – reducing my out-of-pocket expenses on an expensive flight to just over $200.
- Earned 10 miles per dollar on car rental booked through Capital One Travel in Hawaii – and got a free upgrade thanks to Hertz Presidential Council status.
- Gain access to the incredible Capital One Lounge in DFW during an extended break, allowing me to refuel with fresh, locally sourced food and relax with a craft cocktail.
- Miles are transferred to Air France-KLM Flying Blue in a transfer award for four one-way tickets from Paris to San Francisco, save me thousands of dollars.
I highly recommend the Venture X card not only for the generous perks and relatively low annual fees, but also because I earn 2 miles per dollar on my daily purchases. Mileage added up much faster, bringing me closer to my travel goals.
Other TPG employees
Don’t just listen to me. This is how other TPG employees use it Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card:
Colby Kirkpatrick, director of social media
One big Venture X bonus I’ve used this year is a $300 travel credit through Capital One Travel. With that, I covered almost the entire cost of my Chevrolet Tahoe rental $0 for road trip onto California’s iconic Highway 1 – and I used Capital One mile at a fixed value to clear the remainder of the purchase. Both are extremely easy to use.
Erica Silverstein, itineraries editor
I used the $300 travel credit when I wanted to stay a night in London in the West End area. Hotels in this popular tourist area are particularly expensive, so this largely offsets the cost of that stay. And I used my Priority Card membership to gain access to airport lounges at Washington’s Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Miami International Airport (MIA). I plan to use Global Entry credit to my son for the privilege that applies to any registration fees charged to Venture X, not just the primary cardholder.

I would love to use the Priority Card lounge, which is especially useful for international travel, as not all major airlines have their own flagship lounges in European airports. I used $300 travel credit to buy a one-way ticket in premium economy class to Germany and I also love that I earn 10 miles per dollar when booking hotels through Capital One Travel. I’m saving up my miles to redeem them for a big trip next New Zealand and Australia.

I had Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card since 2015, but I opened a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card in March 2022 because its signup bonus is hard to refuse. I plan to use those miles by transferring them to one of the Capital One’s Transfer Partners.
In the meantime, I’ve received great value from Venture X. I use the card as daily spending card because I know I’ll earn at least 2 miles per dollar on all purchases – including things like camping reservations and charity donations, won’t normally earn rewards on other cards mine. I visited Capital One Lounge in Dallas many times and really think it is best lounge in Dallas to any cardholder. And I have benefited many times from discount protection after booking the flight through Capital One Travel with my X Venture card.

I signed up for Venture X the first month after it launched, because I was so eager to earn the initial signup bonus. I transferred my miles to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer as part of promotion to win KrisFlyer Gold status by converting bank rewards to the program.
To share the benefits of using the lounge, I added family members and friends as authorized users in Venture X. This free benefit granted each of them access Free access to more than 1,400 lounges around the world thanks to Capital One’s extensive network.
Finally, I signed up for the Hertz President’s Circle status privilege included with this card. This has allowed me to skip the lines at some rental locations and get car upgrades.
