While at Fstoppers we tend to focus on photography-related products, we sometimes showcase gadgets and technologies that fall outside our usual focus. The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra It’s one of the most amazing gadgets I’ve ever used and I wanted to make a video about it.
Why is this on Fstoppers?
Every time I make a video or write an article about something that interests me that is not directly related to photography, we are flooded with general comments about how this has nothing to do with photography. Ironically, this “irrelevant” content is almost always the most popular content we create each year. The video I made about the Roborock S7 last year was one of the most viewed videos we’ve created over the past 12 months. For years, I wrote content about giving my dad a car. I’ve reviewed sound bars, smartwatches, and headphones, and each time they’re met with angry commenters, but they get 10-100x more engagement for the content our “relevant”. So basically, I want to create content that interests me personally, and I want to create content that attracts views. That’s why this content is on Fstoppers. Don’t worry, Fstoppers is still 99% about photography. If you’re not interested in robot vacuums, you don’t need to read on.
What is it?
Previous years Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and brand new S8 Pro Ultra are the most advanced vacuuming/mopping robots on the market. Both these robots are capable of vacuuming and mopping floors automatically. They navigate obstacles, accurately map your home, and clean your floors with minimal intervention. They come with a companion app that allows you to set restricted zones, schedule cleanings, and check maintenance requests.
I’ve owned the older S7 for about a year and it’s one of the most reliable devices I’ve owned. Every day, I wake up to a house fully vacuumed and mopped, and the only thing I need to do is empty the dirty water tank and refill the clean water tank every 3 or 4 days.
The new S8 features an updated design, a better vacuum system with dual rollers, an updated mopping system and a built-in mop dryer that helps prevent the accumulation of mold and other germs on mop pad. While these upgrades are great, I don’t see any of them as significant enough to justify upgrading to the S8 if you already own an S7.
Conclusion
If you want the absolute top vacuuming/mopping robot by 2023, Roborock S8 is an incredible product, but last year S7 still great and will be significantly discounted throughout the year.
