On a recent Saturday, the rooftop common area at One North Four, a luxury rental building in Williamsburgare animals that enjoy partying, bobbing and mingling with music so loud it threatens to puncture an eardrum – or the bobbing Instagram-ready swan pool.
Kevin, 29, a building resident who works in real estate, was meant to have a serene poolside day amidst recent heat wave, but he could barely find a chair, let alone dip a toe in the water. The deck was full of sweat, some of which didn’t seem to belong.

Maybe Kevin should vote yes, at the last meeting of the residents’ association on whether to hire a doorman.

University of Melbourne climate science lecturer Andrew King said naming heat waves could help raise awareness of their impacts, as climate change makes them more frequent and intense. .

There may be fewer people hospitalized if vulnerable people in Victoria can afford to turn on their air conditioners. Victoria still gets a lot of its electricity from coal, which has eased the pain from the gas, but they are planning to close their coal plants.
Obviously, if your health is reasonably protected, you can simply enjoy the heat wave by visiting the nearest body of water and having some fun. Joining the party seems a lot more fun than wasting time and effort coming up with names for the heat wave.
Some advice from subtropical Queensland, where we call our heat wave ‘Summer’, drink a glass of water between cocktails, your head will thank you the next morning. And of course practice a little sun safety.
