NYC hospital ‘Karen’ has a receipt showing she paid for the Citi bike

An attorney for New York City hospital ‘Karen’ claims they have receipts to prove she paid Citi Bike at the heart of a viral dispute. The video shows the employee arguing with a group of young Black men, who accuse her of taking the bike of one of them.

Attorney Justin Marino told New York Post Office On Wednesday, staff from Bellevue Hospital were the first to rent the bike. Neither the woman’s employer, Bellevue Hospital, nor the attorney released the name of the alleged service provider. However, people online and blog posts have allegedly identified her as an internist Sarah Jane Comrie.

Marino is said to have provided two Citi Bike receipts dated May 12 and timestamped within minutes of the other.

The attorney used receipts to dispel the notion that his client, white, was racist based on interactions in the viral video.

“[The employee has treated] literally thousands of New York City residents of all backgrounds/ethnicities,” Marino told The Post. “Her entire life has simply been focused on helping others, regardless of their background.”

The Post, who reviewed the receipts, said the first one was connected to a bicycle the female employee refused to give up. Meanwhile, the second receipt is connected to the bike she took later.

“One or more individuals in that group pushed her bike (with her on it) back to the docking station, causing it to lock up,” Marino said.

The first receipt showed the bike had been removed from the dock before being locked again a minute later.

As mentioned, the second receipt supposedly reflects the second bike the pregnant employee rented a minute later from the same docking station. It’s the same bike that Marino says his client uses to get home.

He added that she was “provoked and pressured by several young Black males to find a new bike”.

Shade room reported that the employee who was six months pregnant, according to Marino, was laid off earlier this week. Her suspension from work on Tuesday comes just days after her heated confrontation with men on Saturday. It remains unclear whether this new evidence will affect her employment status.

Video Clip: “Let go of me, you are hurting my unborn baby” said pregnant hospital staff

Online users have viewed the nearly 90-second clip tens of millions of times since this article was published. The woman was seen wearing a hospital-branded suit screaming for help as she yanked on the bike.

“Help! Help me! Please, help me,” she shouted.

One of the young men was holding the handlebars and could be heard repeatedly telling her that he had already paid for the bike.

“Let me go! Let go of me, you’re harming my unborn baby,” the woman shouted while pushing the man away.

The man replied, “I don’t touch you! You’re putting your belly in my hand.” After another man in a hospital uniform approached the scuffle, the employee appeared to start crying.

Hospital staff were almost immediately drawn on social media and seen as racist for their interactions.

Some compare her to “Central Park Karen” Amy Cooper, who called the police about a black bird watcher in 2020 and lost her job because of it, Shade room report.

“Karen” bought a Citi bike using her mobile app before five young men confronted her.

Meanwhile, Marino said the interactive clip is “not complete”, according to the Post. He added that she left the job after a 12-hour shift and took a bike “that no one rides or touches.”

She allegedly paid for it through the Citi Bike app on her phone before backing it up from the docking station. When she did, five people are said to have confronted her and claimed the bike was theirs, he told the outlet.

After allegedly causing the bike to lock, one of the individuals is said to have covered up the bike’s QR code.

He added: “When blocking the QR code, this individual’s arm touched my client’s pregnant belly, a condition she informed them of. “During this and the rest of the video, about five people told her to get off the bus and yelled at her.”

Marino said it was tragic how young men treated staff, “especially a woman who appeared to be pregnant.” He noted that the NYPD received no 911 calls regarding the incident.
