Some electric SUV models of the Nissan Ariya 2023 are being recalled because the steering wheel may detach. Nissan is advising owners to have their cars inspected and contact a dealer immediately if the steering wheel is loose.
The recall covers 1,063 vehicles, although Nissan claims in recall report that only 0.18% (about 2 of these) could be affected by the problem, which is the steering wheel latch “may have been improperly tightened or not fitted”.

Nissan said in the report that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue, but has received three reports of a loose Ariya steering wheel—all from dealers. These models had their steering wheel replaced at the port due to another issue.
Nissan is asking owners to check if the steering wheel feels loose “when moving the steering wheel forward and backward with their hands” and contact a dealer for “immediate transportation and repair.” ie” if that’s the case. Dealers will replace the handlebar bolts free of charge.

The steering wheel is also separate reported by Tesla owner, although it looks like a recall has not been issued. Last year, the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra were recalled because their wheels (revolving type) could fall out, affecting the launch of those models. Nissan can hope to avoid a similar situation when it finally ramps up Ariya deliveries.
Arya 2023 spacious and nicely appointed, with just the right look. But Nissan delay the arrival of Ariya in 2021 and deliveries in recent months have been slow, attributed to ongoing supply chain issues. Nissan is now delivering Ariyas in Southern California with the help of the electrician.
