New Command is free and it’s held – Destructoid
Get it from the Epic Games Store by June 9
Oh hey, Wolfenstein: The New Order is free. It’s ready to capture on the Epic Games Store this week and you have until Thursday, June 9 to claim this PC game (worth playing!).
It’s something many of us have played by now thanks to multi-year and multi-year deals, but I’m sure some of you reading this haven’t tried it yet and I’ll push you in that direction. I’m trying to get myself back into that 2014 space right now.
I remember being surprised by how much I liked the story – though, at the time, I was admitted to being in the FPS action, not necessarily the narration. You can’t help but root for BJ Blazkowicz every step of the way, and Wolfenstein: New command feels really personal. Naturally, you can brutalize every Nazi you see, but there are also tough themes and authentic character moments in the mix. MachineGames has earned the fence, and it has paid off; New command appeared in the Game of the Year discussions.
With that said, even if you lack a weak point for Wolfenstein (or no personal history to it) you can totally have a good time with this game.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colosseum is an ever-present sequel and not all of its zanier moments land, but I’m mostly still digging into the game and it’s going to be great for a (hopefully more comprehensive) Wolfenstein III. Right, Indiana Jones also cool. But come on!
Next week’s free game is a mystery
It looks like fans will be playing the wait-and-see game for a while. At least next week, Epic Games Store will be back with another free mystery game on Thursday, June 9.
