Introducing the NA-A7IV

SONY FULL FRAME MIRROR CAMERA 7 IV

The Sony α7 full-frame mirrorless camera series has long been at the forefront of offering a variety of similarly styled models geared towards different shooting styles. With the α7 RIII and RIV, the focus is on low-light and ultra-high resolution video, respectively, while the α7IV combines the two to create a true hybrid photography platform. Exmor R back-illuminated 33MP full-frame sensor delivers high-resolution stills while taking advantage of the large sensor size to deliver color-rich and super sharp video sampled from the 7K sensor width full.

Camera specs

  • 33MP full-frame Exmor R™ BSI CMOS sensor with BIONZ XR™ processor
  • 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2 video without crop
  • 4K 30p 10-bit 4:2:2 downsampled from full sensor width 7K w/o pixel binning
  • Real-time Eye-AF for people and animals
  • S-Log3 gamma for maximum Dyanmic Range capture
  • In-body 5-axis image stabilization

Auto focus

The α7IV’s improved autofocus system borrows heavily from other α-series versions of Sony by employing their Fast Hybrid AF system, which combines phase-detection and contrast-detection to deliver fast and accurate focusing. The AF area is expanded to cover nearly 94% of the frame with 759 AF points. Sony’s latest Real-Time Tracking and Eye AF modes promise precise focus tracking for stills and video. The new Focal Map feature allows for easier visualization of depth of field when shooting movies. to help make sure important parts of your subject are sharp.

Video 4K

Shooting 4K 60p video in 10-bit 4:2:2 at up to 600Mbps without cropping puts the α7IV on par with its peers in video capabilities. The addition of the option to capture 30p thumbnails sampled from the full 7K sensor width gives users the option to choose a mode that suits their shooting style. Recording video in the S-Log3 gamma profile gives access to the camera’s full 15+ stops of dynamic range for increased latitude in post-processing.

Improved control

In addition to upgrading the camera’s autofocus, video recording, and stills capabilities, the α7IV now also has the option to maintain separate settings for video and still image modes. A dedicated dial on the top of the camera makes it easier to switch between modes. The menu system has also been upgraded to make it easier to navigate and resemble recent models.

NAUTICAM WATER HOUSE NA-A7IV

The NA-A7IV is designed as the ultimate solution for both still and motion photography underwater. Equipped with Nauticam’s extensive line of accessories, the NA-A7IV can be customized to excel in both roles. The latest in Sony’s long list of mirrorless system cases, the NA-A7IV features the same intuitively placed controls, easy setup, and rugged reliability that users expect.

Mission Control

Never miss a shot when looking for a button or dial. No matter where a control can be found on the camera, Nauticam engineers have put it in the housing where it is needed most. Essential buttons and dials are within reach of a reinforced ergonomic handle. On the top of the box, a new dedicated lever allows for quick switching between Still Image, Movie and S&Q (VFR Video) modes. A dual thumb lever near the right handle activates the REC and AF-ON buttons, and a single lever near the left handle is for PLAYBACK.

HDMI 2.0

A large bore M24 baffle is located at the front of the case for use with HDMI 2.0 or HDMI 1.4 (with M16 step-down converter) external monitors and recorders. An additional M10 threaded mounting position near the front center of the case also makes it easier to use the external display. The A7IV can output 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 at up to 60fps to external recorders allowing recording in edit-friendly codecs like ProRes. See the resources sidebar for more details and recommended settings.

Premium professional optics

Built around the N100 Port System for the Sony E-Mount, the NA-A7IV can support a wide range of native lenses with a choice of Optical Glass and Acrylic ports. When used with the E-Mount to EF-mount lens adapter and the N100 to N120 adapter (see the Resources sidebar for supported adapters), the NA-A7IV can be used with the system. Canon N120 EF-Mount port system, expanding the system’s capabilities even further. Going beyond conventional optics, the NA-A7IV can take advantage of the unparalleled optical quality of Nauticam’s Water Contact optics such as the WACP-1 which offers a field of view up to 130º, full zoom, distance near 0″ minimum focus with supported lenses For macros, the SMC-1 and SMC-2 provide up to 4x super sharp macro magnification with the Sony 90mm macro lens.

Vacuum test and leak detection

The housing comes with pre-installed electronics for Nauticam’s Vacuum Test and Leak Detection systems, requiring only the optional M14 (25624) Vacuum Valve. This monitoring system provides constant updates on the watertightness and safety of the home for diving. The simple color-coded LED lighting system lets the user know that the vacuum is solid, or that the case is losing its vacuum. Leak detection is integrated in the same circuit, so if there is water ingress, an audible and visual indicator will appear. The Nauticam system is temperature compensated, eliminating false alarms from changes in outside temperature or from the camera heating up during an action-packed dive.

Flashing Activation

External strobe triggering is done via the integrated fiber baffle when using the optional Mini Flash Trigger for Sony (26302). Electronic triggering is also via an optional Nikonos Bulkhead. Note that using this with a Vacuum Valve will require the optional M14 Compensation Connector with Vacuum Valve II (25026).
