National Book Award goes to Jason Mott, Tiya Miles, Malinda Lo and Martín Espada: NPR
NEW YORK – Jason Mott’s Hell of a book, a surreal surreal story about an author’s book and his haunting past and present, won the National Book Award for fiction.
Tiya Miles’ All She Has Made: The Journey of Ashley’s Sack, a Black Family Memento is the winner for non-fiction books and by Malinda Lo Last night at the telegraph club for youth literature.
The Poetry Prize has been awarded to Martín Espada’s Floatingand the best translation went to Elisa Shua Dusapin Winter in Sokcho, translated from French by Aneesa Abbas Higgins.
The winners in the categories competed on Wednesday night, each receiving $10,000.
Two honorary awards have been awarded: Author-playwright Karen Tei Yamashita received a lifetime achievement medal for Outstanding Contribution to Letters from the United States, and NPR author-librarian-commentator Nancy Pearl was awarded the Literary Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community.
