Final Fantasy XVI Producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida denied rumors of PC release plans. After the tournament, Yoshida appeared on a premium members-only live stream to answer fan questions and comment on various topics. He responded to rumors about a Final Fantasy XVI PC version. Speaking in Japanese, he said:
There have been rumors that the PC version [of FFXVI] will come out, but no one [on the team] said anything about the PC version. I wonder why everyone assumes the PC version will come out in six months [the PS5 version]so go ahead and buy a PS5.
The rumors that Yoshida seems to be addressing with his comments seem to be related to previous revelations about Final Fantasy XVI release. during that time PlayStation 5 intro stream 2020initial FFXVI revealed the trailer saying that the game will be “Also available on PC.” Wording was omitted in the official trailer uploaded by Square Enix and the official press release. Two years later, Sony focuses on PS5″Play like never before” the trailer aired in November 2022 and mentions that FFXVI will be a “PS5 exclusive for six months.”
It seems that speculation has combined these two facts to conclude that Final Fantasy XVI The PC release will take place six months after the PS5 release. Yoshida’s response in this case is to say that, in fact, he and the team are not talking about any version of FFXVI next to the PS5 release now. The comments also seem to be wary of assuming any other platform release, including PC, will happen when the PS5 exclusivity window closes.
For its part, Square Enix has brought some major recent releases to PC. Final Fantasy VII Remake upgrade launches on PC in December 2021, more than 6 months after the PS5 release (and over 20 months after the original PS4 release in April 2020). While Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is a daily release on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Final Fantasy XVI will release on PS5 on June 22, 2023.
