MyJPJ – 2.97 million people have downloaded the app

In February, transport minister Anthony Loke announced that Malaysia was moving to digital system for its road tax (LKM, or lesen kenderaan engine) and driver’s license, physical copies of these are no longer required

Since then, nearly three million users have downloaded the road transport ministry’s MyJPJ app, according to JPJ general manager Datuk Zailani Hashim. This application is required to access the digital version of the road tax and driver’s license.

“So far, a total of 2.971 million users have registered and we expect that by the middle of this year, that number will increase to make things easier,” he said. He added that the suite is in the process of adding features to the app, including renewals made through the platform.

“For now, we only have the screen (the functionality on the app) because the renewal of the license and the road tax (the function) will only start in the middle of this year. We currently only have visibility to allow the public to become familiar with the MyJPJ digital platform,” he explained.

Regarding potential glitches like the possibility that a person doesn’t have any mobile Internet data or coverage on their smartphone, or the phone battery dies during an enforcement test, Zailani said. that none of these situations proved problematic, because New Straits Times report.

He said the department will be able to deal with such issues as department staff will use a tool called Smart Management Execution Device (SMED), which can show whether a permit or road tax of a person is still in effect or needs to be renewed. “A person just needs to provide their MyKad and SMED can display their relevant information,” he said.
