Updated Porsche Taycan, spy high-performance variant

Our spy photographers have been busy, capturing four Porsche Taycan prototype in testing.

One appears to be a new high-performance variant, while the other three appear to be upgraded sedans and wagons.

The former, followed by the Nurburgring, had an oversized rear wing, as well as a more powerful front bumper that flared out on the sides.

On the other hand, the car doesn’t seem to have changed aesthetically. There is a roll cage and racing seats fitted, but these are usually used for testing purposes.

It is unclear if Porsche is working on a more extreme version of the Taycan compared to the current flagship Turbo S, which is likely to wear a GT badge.

The Turbo S features a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 560kW of power and 1050Nm of torque, which is good for the claimed range of 405km and 0-100km/h time in just 2, 8 seconds.

In addition to this mysterious prototype, Taycan and Taycan Sport Turismo scooter prototypes were also spotted wearing camouflage on the front and rear bumpers.

This appears to be the prototype of a mid-life update to Porsche’s EV, which could be revealed next year as a 2024 model.

Porsche isn’t just waiting for a traditional mid-life update to roll out tweaks to its first EV.

Earlier this year it announced a software update which improves thermal management and thus allows the Taycan to be quickly charged more often.

The update brings all Taycan models to the 2023 model year specs.

There’s also a series of powertrain updates affecting the 2021 Taycan models, bringing the improvements already introduced to the 2022 model year.

In Normal and Range drive modes, the front engine of the all-wheel drive Taycan models is almost completely disconnected.

Both axles have no transmission torque when stopping or stopping the vehicle, and a new energy flow indicator is viewable on the central touchscreen.

The automatic energy recovery setting is also retained even when the driving mode is adjusted.

Wireless Android Auto and built-in Spotify, introduced earlier this year, will be available to older models as part of an update, and feature an updated look for the touchscreen start screen. , more support for voice control and an ‘optimized’ map view for the head-up display.

Parking sensors have improved range and the semi-autonomous parking assist system can now detect smaller spaces.

The current Taycan lineup in Australia includes the rear-wheel drive base and all-wheel drive 4S, GTS, Turbo and Turbo S sedans, along with the premium Cross Turismo in 4 variants, 4S and Turbo.

The lower Sport Turismo model is not offered here.
