A mainstay in South Florida while coaching Mahmoud Fustok’s Buckram Oak Stable in the 1990s and 2000s, Mohammed Moubarak is in the process of re-starting at Gulfstream Park.
Moubarak, who has had several successful bets in South Florida, is currently training three horses at Gulfstream Park while looking to grow his stables in the coming months. On January 27, the Lebanon-born coach pinned his first starter (who finished in third place). Dimenna ) at Gulfstream since May 2007. On February 10th, he closed the saddle Mr. Mac Quhae to finish second in race number 5, a race that demanded the first $35,000.
“We’ve only been here a few months,” says Moubarak. We hope to slowly expand with some 2-year-olds from the sale. “It feels good to be back. I miss the people here. I missed the race.”
Among Moubarak’s happiest memories at Gulfstream is winning the Appleton Handicap (G2T) in 2002 with Pisces and Canada 2000 grass handicap (G3T) with City of Shamrock.
The saddest memory is the sudden death of Fustok, who was run over by a driver while jogging along the A1A in 2006.
Moubarak trained in the UK for several years before calling it off there last July.
“When I left England in 1992, I let them argue about the same thing – about the prize money. I came back 30 years later, and I found them arguing the same way,” he said.
