Most Goal Scorer AFCON 2022: Updating the Golden Shoe Rankings at the Africa Cup of Nations
The 2022 Africa Cup of Nations is approaching the quarter-finals, and with eight matches remaining, one name still stands out above the rest on the scoring charts.
Captain Vincent Aboubakar of the host country Cameroon are on the verge of starting the tournament, scoring a total of six goals, including at least one in each of his nation’s matches in four matches to top the list of players.
But Aboubakar’s Cameroon teammate, Karl Toko Ekambi of Lyon, five goals behind him after scoring twice against the Gambia in the quarter-finals.
Mali’s Ibrahima Kone (three penalties) and Malawi .’s Gabadinho Mango scored three goals, but those players would not play another game in the tournament after their team was eliminated in Round 16. There was a group of nine players chasing two goals, with six of them. is still active.
Liverpool star Sadio Mane scored the second goal of the tournament in the Round of 16, while his club teammates Mohamed Salah still stuck on a target. Both look like long-range shots in contention for the top spot at this point. Man City attacker Riyad Mahrez Didn’t score a single goal (he actually missed a penalty) as Algeria were eliminated in the group stage.

This year’s current top scorer, Vincent Aboubakar, has been top scorer in each of the last 11 AFCON tournaments with six goals in four games. He will return to action on Saturday in the quarterfinals as he looks to add to his total.
