When the “Dog Resort,” a dog daycare in the Lake City neighborhood of Seattle, catches fire, it could be a devastating disaster. After all, dozens of dogs went to daycare that day. But instead, brilliant employees from two nearby businesses came together, unhesitatingly putting themselves in jeopardy so that they could lend a hand.
Thanks to the local community, each dog was saved from the fire.
Those are the employees from PSR Mechanical, along with some words Mexican Food Aceitunos, a nearby Mexican restaurant who came together to help. The PSR is right across the street and the Mexican restaurant is next door. Staff at both locations detected smoke and heard sirens.
“You can see smoke coming out of the building and noise from the dogs, from the first responders, the firefighters, the police, everyone responding. So that’s a lot of noise; it was chaos. And it was one of those situations where we didn’t know exactly what to do, but we knew we had to help,” said Greg Hagen, one of the HVAC company’s employees.
Everyone plays an equally important role in the rescue. Some people ran into the burning building to move endangered dogs while PSR staff swarmed all the dogs into their fenced yard. Some yard guards have PSR fences to keep dogs out, and others make sure every dog is well taken care of.
They even helped reunite petrified pet owners with their precious dogs, all while firefighters battled the blaze. The fire broke out inside the facility’s dryer room around 11 a.m As you might expect, all parents of puppies are nervous beyond imagination.
Greg said: “They took their dog there that morning and saw it on the news and went completely crazy.
It was a brave team effort from daycare workers, Seattle police, the Seattle fire brigade, Animal Control, and many nearby businesses, including veterinarians.
The whole situation was extremely emotional for everyone. Can you imagine what it feels like to watch the dog daycare where your precious dog spends the day go up in flames?
Seeing the expressions on all of them when they saw that their furry children were all right must have been heartbreaking for them. After all, only an animal lover would put herself in jeopardy to make sure the dogs are okay.
Now, the employees are being hailed as heroes. Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell even visited both PSR and Aceitunos Mexican Foods to hand them letters of recognition.
Situations like these really help restore your faith in humanity.
