With the energy regulator forecasting peak winter demand for gas could exceed supply in the long term, federal and state political leaders have Unable to reach consensus on whether Australia should develop Narrabri or other gas fields.

Federal Minister of Natural Resources Madeleine King support project Narrabri this week but was criticized for doing so by the Working Environment Action Network, the leader of the Greens, Adam Bandt, Greenpeace and others. The Narrabri gas project won’t come online until 2026. Renewable energy is supposed to solve Australia’s problems by 2030. But Australia’s 2022 energy supply remains fraught with danger. – any further failure, during what promises to be a very cold winter, will limit the threat of a blackout.
The The federal government had previously planned to build a $600 million gas plant, to replace the 1000MW Liddell coal plant., which is slated to close in 2023. This won’t solve the problems of 2022, but it will at least be a step in the right direction – possibly providing enough gas to run the plant. Somehow, I suspect Prime Minister Anthony Albanese intends to upset all of his green friends by continuing this scheme.
Private energy companies currently have no incentive to tackle these problems. Our new Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has promised to stop emissions by 2030, which means he intends to shut down fossil fuel power companies. There is no compensation.
The only reasonable commercial response is to spend absolute minimum on maintenance, invest nothing in new capacity, and extract any remaining profits that can be extracted from our dilapidated generators. us, until the last day they broke down for the last time.
