Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Final Edition launched last week, and so far it’s been a pretty messy affair. And I don’t mean the whole thing remove it from the failed sale, I mean the game itself is a mess. But fortunately, modders have stepped in, improving the game’s rain, fixing typos, adding a lot of nice graphics options and more. One modder even fixed the nut on the Tuff Nut Donuts sign, which, for some inexplicable reason, was rounded.
I want to be specific about that first, because it’s hilarious. The developers have smoothed the particles. Why do they smooth the grain? Have they never seen a bead? Are they in such a hurry that they don’t realize the round thing they’re making so round is actually a nut?

Looks like this was an accident, though one you’d think someone would notice internally. “Irastris” on NexusMods was mentioned by us, restore it to its actual nut shape (However, they changed it to an octagonal nut instead of the original hexagon nut).
In addition to fixing round nuts, there are a lot of finer tweaks as well. Many modders have gone after the rain of the trio, which, in its unmodified state, is a series of thick white lines across your screen. Rain is better by “Instanity666” and Rain repair by “GTATrilogyMods” (who created the comparison image above) both make the rain more transparent.
A modder calling himself “Grove Street Games” has edited a bunch of typos at a Chinatown food stall in GTA 3. On the front window, the Def Ed version misspelled “soup” as “sops”, among other typos for words that were spelled so well in the original.
To make the game feel more like the original, “OussaMax” made a mod called Make Los Santos Great Again. It’s designed to help “mimic the look” of old San Andreas, adding fog, color grading, and several grading presets that let you overlay warm colors over the whole thing. There is also a mod Vice City’s radar restore, plus mods use GTA 3’s and Vice City’s Old Icons.
For some extras you can check No border, remove thick white outlines from pedestrians when you target them or Better Busted Screen for GTA 3. If you want some fun visuals you can change your graphics to be more cartoon-y with this mod that makes the trilogy look like a telltale game.
The trio almost certainly has more to do with all of these fixing things, but it does some Errors can stay. I don’t think letting a car grow by swaying from side to side is a problem, you know?
