MMA star wants Katie Taylor to fight when Serrano drops out
Any possibility of a rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano went into the present time.
The Puerto Rican proved she’s the ‘Real Deal’ and pushed the Irish superstar every way in their thriller at Madison Square Garden six weeks ago. Taylor retained her undisputed light crown but was driven by all means to win a split decision, with enough reason to warrant a rematch.
“Whether they don’t think they can win the fight or just want to gain confidence or… I don’t know… but they don’t want the rematch right now,” Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn told DAZN . boxing show.
Citing Serrano’s team, he said, ‘We don’t want to do it before 80,000 at Croke Park in Ireland’.
“We contacted their team, and it was like ‘no (financial) numbers’. Not even [a] ‘let’s negotiate, let’s make an offer’. It’s like ‘look. we don’t want a rematch right now’. “
Hearn said: “It was amazing. “I think Amanda feels like she’s winning the fight, and she can beat Katie Taylor and obviously they’re going to turn down large sums of money, but they don’t want to entertain the discussion.”
The former United welterweight titleholder has made UFC star Holly Holm a potential contender for Taylor’s next bout, and so has Cris Cyborg.
Bellator’s Featherweight champion is ready to leave the Octagon behind and pursue a career in the squared circle. And the 36-year-old Brazilian will be ready to take on Taylor at Croke Park despite only two fights yielding a win and a loss in 2013 and 2014.
“I am willing to sit down and talk to Eddie whenever he is available,” she said Irish Mirror.
“He mentioned my name in the media a few times, but for me, I am very serious about getting into boxing and if he seriously wants to be my promoter then I am very happy. want to talk to him. What he’s done for all of women’s boxing, not just Katie Taylor, has really helped elevate the sport.
“I have told my management that I am ready to sign the contract.”
