MITI minister Tengku Zafrul teased Tesla more by asking ‘What’s next?’, or is it about the next investor?

One day after announcing that Tesla will set up shop in Malaysia, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz tweeted a trailer with the EV brand’s logo revealed, with the line “What’s next? Stay!” The tweet’s caption read, “Something GREAT is coming this way…”.

It was quite confusing from the Minister of International Trade and Industry. Does he mean more from Tesla, or perhaps he is asking us to follow up for the next big company to come in and invest in our market?

Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul announced that Tesla will set up an office here along with Tesla experience and service centers and the Supercharger network for electric vehicles they will sell. Tesla was the first to sign up for MITI’s BEV Global Leaders initiative.

Could today’s trailer hint at Tesla’s larger presence in Malaysia beyond sales, service, and charging? An area base or some kind of vegetation? definitely one Gigafactory Is that too wild a thought, or is it? There’s a good chance the trailer isn’t about “more Tesla” but possibly even another electric vehicle maker participating through the BEV Global Leaders program.
