Mikey Garcia was in Joshua’s camp and gave his Usyk rematch verdict
Anthony Joshua has exactly what it takes to beat Oleksandr Usyk.
That’s what everyone thought before he was dethroned by the Ukrainians 11 months ago in London.
And that’s what Mikey Garcia, brother of Joshua’s new coach Robert Garciathought the rematch was near.
Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) was overtaken by Usyk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last September and will face his old enemies again on August 20 at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia, bid to regain the WBA Super, IBF, IBO and WBO heavyweight titles and become a three-time unified champion.
Former four-weight world champion Garcia spoke to Fighthype.com About the rematch:
“My dad and I watched [Joshua train]We have made some comments and [Joshua] was paying close attention to whatever my dad and I had to say, and so was Robert.
“We feel good about the fight.”
Joshua hired the aforementioned Garcia to work alongside Angel Fernandez after parting ways with his longtime mentor Robert McCracken following his first fight against the undisputed former cruiser king Usyk.
And Mikey, who quietly announced his retirement from sports in June after suffering a shock defeat at the hands of Spain’s Sandor Martin with a 40-2 record with a quick 30 points, believes we can now see the best of the 32-year-old as he against his colleague the former Olympic champion, 35, later this month.
Garcia added:
“I feel ‘AJ’ has everything to win the fight.
“Watch and analyze each type of fighting fish to know what kind of fish they are.
“Do not take anything from Usyk. Usyk won the first fight so it wasn’t like, ‘Oh, f**k, that should be an easy battle.’ No.
“But when you look at what he brings to the ring, AJ has everything you need to beat a boxer like Usyk.
“I think he should win and it should be a good fight.”
