The San Francisco 49ers tried to trade veteran midfielder Jimmy Garoppolobut no results.
And the 49ers aren’t close to reaching an agreement, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday.
Rapoport said: “The 49ers have been very clear when they say they plan to buy and sell him. “Obviously I won’t be with the team next season. However, I understand, there is currently no clear commercial partner for Jimmy Garoppolo. Look around. NFL, think who can get that salary, think who needs the starting midfielder. There aren’t any obvious choices. Maybe a midfielder isn’t as developed as people think or maybe there’s an injury and one can develop, but right now it’s a bit of a game to wait.
“So, how long are 49 people willing to wait? To my knowledge, they are willing to wait until the end of the sale. And in fact, that means nothing for 49-year-olds, let’s say. , let’s move on from Jimmy Garoppolo for now because what happens if another defender gets injured, or what if there is a need? and potentially – continue from him.”
Garoppolo is probably “a couple of weeks away” from being ready to play after off-season shoulder surgery, Rapoport reported.
San Francisco announced during the season that Trey Lance will be its starting quarterback next season. 49 people traded for 3rd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to pick Lance, who played in North Dakota State.
While fit, Garoppolo has been San Francisco’s main quarterback since October 2017, when they bought him from New England Patriots. They’ve made it to the NFC Championship Game in two of the past three seasons with Garoppolo at center, reaching the Super Bowl in 2019.
Garoppolo finished last season with 3,810 passes, 20 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a midfield tally of 98.7, completing 68.3% of his passes.
