Michael Dunlop won the Monster energy Supersport TT. Ballymoney racer made it happen 20 TT wins and counts down, going home in his own MD Racing R6 3.9s ahead of Kawasaki’s Dean Harrison. Peter Hickman completed the podium on Trooper Victory.
The Race is an absolute horror movie featuring Dunlop and Harrison’s trades throughout the 3-round competition. In the end, Dunlop was only slightly better than the DAO kawasaki racer, but there was hardly anything between them. Dunlop needed a new lap record of 129.47 mph to strike a deal in the final lap.
A good battle for 3rd rebelled behind them, with Hickman, Lee Johnston, and Hiller all taking part. They finally finished in that order.
The race started at 10:45 an hour earlier and was cut into 3 laps to allow Saturday’s abandoned Sidecar race to be included in the program later in the day.
Despite the nature of the bout, Dunlop led from start to finish. In the first round in round 1, he has an advantage over 2019 winner, Lee Johnston by 0.5 seconds. At Ballaugh, the lead was 1.4s to Harrison and by Ramsey it was 2.5. But Michael caught Hillier and Hutchinson on the street; after the race, he said he could feel them ‘sucking’ behind him as he passed.
Unlike the three previous winners, the organizers stipulate that they must compete at the end of round 1. In the past, choosing which lap to go on has added a tactical dimension to the proceedings, but because of any problems. Whatever the reason, the organizers decided that wasn’t the case today.
And there was drama in the pits. Lee Johnston lost 8 seconds on his stop, knocking him out of the race to win.
Dunlop had a good stop and when they got to 2nd lap distance is 3s. But Hillier was once again ahead of him on the road after a quick dash and dash.
By Glenhelen, Dunlop caught the OMG Yamaha man causing him to obviously slow down a bit. Harrison is going back in time and has halved the difference. Through Ballaugh, it was less than a second.
At this point, Hillier is behind the race leader, just as Dunlop was behind Peter Hickman in Saturday’s SBK TT. The trailer pulled Hillier into a scramble for the podium and he began to infiltrate Hickman.
The news from Ramsey in round 2 was that Harrison was 1.3 points ahead of Yamaha MD Racing. But Hillier overhauled Hickman and had 3 goalsrd. Lee Johnston tried his best to modify the poor stop and caught both.
When they start 3rd and the only lap of the Dunlop race took down Hillier but caught Johnston on the road. This pair crossed the line with each other at 160 MPH. At this point, there was only a split second between Harrison and Dunlop and when penalty shootout 1 began, the excitement was unheard of.
They were almost inseparable at Glen Helen… just a hundredth of a second there. The race really took place. But that’s as close as it gets. At each split from then on, Michael increased his advantage; he seemed to have his Yorkshire rival’s gauge of bumpy stuff – it was 2.2 seconds at Ramsey and as they negotiated the final 12 miles, there was a sense of caution that Dunlop probably did. enough.
As the Yamaha yelled over Veranda and into the Bungalow, it was confirmed he had a 3.4-second lead. Except for bad luck for Michael or a superhuman effort from Harrison, the race is Dunlop’s.
Finally, a new lap record means the lead is up again to the finish line and MD crossed the line to score 8order Winning the Supersport of his career, equals Ian Hutchinson in the record books.
The supporting actors engaged in a fierce wrestling match to win the final podium. Without Dunlop’s pull, Hillier slipped back. Hickman overhauled zero. 5 and close to 4s but Johnston is on a comeback.
While Dunlop celebrated his victory in the parc ferme game, the timers held their breath waiting for who would come out on top. In the end it was Hickman’s… The depressed Johnston gave everything to get the box, but it still wasn’t enough.
For this race, the historic Junior trophy was awarded to Dunlop. The Junior Cup is 100 years old this year and was first presented to Manxman, Tom Sheard in 1922.
It’s only fitting that Michael should have won at this year’s Jubilee TT, as his uncle Joey took his first win in the 1977 Jubilee TT race. Michael’s 45 years have made the Dunlop name continue. etched into the history of this great event.
John McGuinness fell short in the Supersport TT match, going home in 19th place, more than three minutes behind the leader.
Australian debutant Rennie Scaysbrook completed two laps but was marked off the course in Signpost Corner after the incident seen Davy Morgan lost his life on the final lap of Milestone 27. It’s Davy’s 80sorder begins on the Isle of Man.
