Ducati reveals details on 150hp electric MotoE racing bike

Now, today, we have our first glimpse of Project Ducati “V21L” MotoEbut also some performance specs that we can expect in the MotoE series.

First, the numbers you’re about to hear: 495 lbs (224.5 kg) race-ready, 150hp (110 kW) peak power, 103 lbs • ft (140 Nm) of torque, 18 lb-ft battery pack kWh (running at 800 volts) can be charged to 80% in 45 minutes with the onboard 20 kW charger and reach a top speed of over 170 mph (275 km/h) at the Mugello track.

Not to use an Italian cliché, but it’s a spicy meatball and close to what Ducati achieved with its Panigale V4 superbike.

Of course, a spec sheet isn’t the full story when it comes to Ducati’s MotoE project – as the Italian company has put its DNA on their first electric racing bike.

For starters, the chassis design should look familiar to any Ducatisti, with Ducati reusing its front frame technology with an aluminum bar connecting the front end to the carbon fiber battery pack, doubles as a load-bearing member of the chassis.

The V21L also uses Ducati’s full suite of electronics, including IMU-assisted traction control, wheel control and slip control. There are also different throttle maps and engine braking (regenerative braking) maps, allowing the vehicle to be tailored to individual rider preferences.

In terms of hardware, the usual brands can be found. The brake package has been closely developed with Brembo, and features twin 338.5mm steel discs up front, with additional fins on the rack assembly. Ducati is testing discs ranging in size from 6.8mm to 7.4mm, which is a pretty big crack compared to the 4mm you’d normally see on a modern production bike.

These discs are joined by two Brembo GP4RR M4 brake calipers with 32mm and 36mm pistons, again a sizable upgrade from the typical 30mm pistons you’ll see on a Panigale V4 superbike. They are connected to a radial Brembo PR 18×19 master cylinder, for a sizable bite and modulus.

As you might also suspect, the suspension comes from Öhlins, and here Ducati copied its design from Superleggera V4 project, with Öhlins NPX 25/30 pressurized fork and Öhlins TTX36 shock absorber. An Öhlins steering damper completes the suspension package.

At a glance this MotoE racer, you can’t miss the dual radiator setup. The top radiator cools the 800-volt battery pack, which weighs in at 243 lbs with its 1,152 21700 clyindrical cells. Meanwhile, the bottom radiator cools the in-house developed electric motor, which weighs just 46 lbs and spins up to 18,000 rpm.

Ducati boasts that its dual radiator setup allows the V21L to be charged immediately after use without cooling, and the high voltage system means charging the Ducati battery takes a minimal amount of time. 45 minutes to 80% capacity).

This will create more track time for MotoE teams, as they will have less time in the pit and thus be able to go more sessions in a day.

The entire tuning package has been tweaked with help from Ducati test racers Michele Pirro, Alex de Angelis and Chaz Davies, with Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali recently getting a chance to ride the bike and award it. for your project approval.
