Metroid Dread update offers three new action-packed modes – Destructoid

So I bet you’re pretty savvy with Samusing, aren’t you? Well, the intergalactic horror of Metroid The franchise has a whole new set of challenges in store for you, thanks to a new brand Metroid Dread update, available to download now, for free, on Nintendo Switch.

Meat of version 2.1.0 located in three additional modes, pushing our girl to her absolute limit in the face of stupidity, exposing the brains of Planet ZDR. The three “Rush” encounters are unorthodox modes, created purely to push the player’s skill and endurance to very high limits. Once the update is installed, you can access the new modes by going to the “Samus Files” screen and pressing the R button.

“Boss Rush”, accessible after the main campaign is completed, will see Samus take on 12 boss characters with a single life bar – all damage carried over to the ensuing fight. If you fall into battle, then the option is given to continue from the same location at the cost of a time penalty. Beat the guardians to score the best time possible and prove yourself as one of the galaxy’s best bounty hunters. This mode will also have the option to practice fighting each boss.

“Survival Rush,” accessible after completing Boss Rush or Dread Rush, sets off a Boss Rush challenge with a ticking clock, as Samus fights to defeat as many bosses as he can within five minutes. Bonus time is awarded as each boss drops, plus seconds for Perfect wins. Both bosses and Old Father Time will be your enemy here, so think fast, move fast.

The “Dread Rush”, accessible after completing the main campaign in Dread Mode, is perhaps the truest test of a player’s abilities. Like Boss Rush, Samus will be tasked with punching their way through the 12 Guardians of the Metroid Dread, only this time, Samus must survive the run without taking a single hit! Not one! It’s a heavy task and I’m looking forward to seeing experienced players fight their way through this particular test on Twitch… Because lord knows I won’t get it done.

In addition to the new modes, a fix has been applied to a very specific Game Over screen bug.
