McLaren issued a Recall apply to more than 150 units Arturaits new hybrid supercar. Operational vehicles equipped with high-pressure fuel lines can loosen, leak and eventually cause a fire because they are not secured with the right hardware.
Designated recall number 22V-908 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the campaign includes 164 examples of Arturas manufactured between October 8, 2021 and October 14. November 2022. Affected VINs range from SBM16AEA3PW000177 to SBM16AEA1PW000372.
McLaren explains that the recalled cars are built with high-pressure fuel lines held in place by cold-formed nuts; examples not covered by the recall are manufactured with fully machined nuts. It adds that cold-formed nuts can loosen from Fuel pump from time to time, especially “during the dynamic driving maneuvers often associated with racing.” In turn, this can create a fuel leak that increases the risk of fire. McLaren noted that two cars had leaked fuel on the track but added that there were no injuries or accidents related to the fault.
Owners of affected cars will have to bring their Artura to the nearest McLaren dealer for a free fuel hose replacement. As for the root of the problem, the British company said it switched to cold-formed nuts in March 2021 due to a lack of fully machined parts.
