Mazda MX-5 Miata 2022 adds new handling technology, reducing car availability

2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata is here and there are some notable updates and changes for the new model year.

Right from the start, Mazda is introducing a new processing-improvement technology on the Miata that it calls “Kinematic Posture Control,” or KPC for short. Mazda says that KPC “applies very lightly brake to the inner rear wheel during high-speed cornering. This pulls down that corner, preventing body roll and making steering response feel more linear through tight or rough corners. Slightly more powerful brakes are used when accelerating through a corner, enhancing the effect of limiting slip. ”

We’ll need to drive the 2022 Miata to see if this new system will change much on the car in practice, but based on the description we suspect the effect won’t be a complete transformation. . It will probably only make Miata is already very good even better to drive.

In addition to the driving experience, Mazda is struggling with color both outside and inside. Platinum Quartz Metallic (sand beige above) is new for 2022 and is a free option. If you step all the way up to Grand Touring trim, you’ll also get the possibility of new Nappa Terracotta leather upholstery (brown seats pictured) for an extra $300.

Packaging and pricing were very tightly applied, and unlike most cars today, Mazda is actually reducing the availability of automatic transmission. If you want the available six-speed automatic instead of the standard six-speed manual, you’ll now need to go straight to the Grand Touring trim – it’s no longer optional on the Sport or Club (oh, so bad). That brings the base price of the automatic up to $33,315, up $4,140 from last year’s cheapest automatic. The price increase for RF isn’t too steep – just $1,375 more – as the RF trim ladders that start at the Club level are inherently more expensive.

Overall, both soft top and RF are more expensive this year. A base 2022 Miata Sport now starts at $28,315, up $490 from 2021. Our favorite, the Club, is currently on sale for $31,815. It also adds wireless Apple CarPlay for 2022, an upgrade over wired CarPlay in the base Sport. The Brembo BBS Recaro Bundle adds nonsense from $30 to $4,500, but includes the same great performance extras.

Mazda says Miata 2022 will launch agency this winter.
