Marriott has something special for Bonvoy elites who don’t qualify for status in 2022


Official announcement: Marriott is offering a “light landing” to Bonvoy elites who didn’t qualify last year.

Specifically, the brand will offer Marriott Bonvoy members who do not qualify to gain their status in 2022 the opportunity to keep their status one notch lower from March 2023 to February 2024. Loyalty Lobby first reported this.

Here’s what you need to know.

The Marriott status you gain in 2021 will expire at the end of February unless you qualify or achieve a higher level of status in 2022. Marriott will, however, offer members who do not qualify. in 2022 grant status just below their expiring status:

“Members who do not regain their current Elite status in 2022 will be one tier down from their current status until February 2024. These members will see their new status begin. start from March 2023 and can enjoy their current status until February 2024.”

With this announcementMembers who do not qualify for their current status level will keep their status for the level immediately below their expiring status until February 2024:

  • Ambassador Elite members who do not qualify in 2022 will have Titanium Elite status until February 2024.
  • Titanium Elite members who do not qualify in 2022 will have Platinum Elite status until February 2024.
  • Platinum Elite members who do not qualify in 2022 will have Gold Elite status until February 2024.
  • Gold Elite members who do not qualify in 2022 will have Silver Elite status until February 2024.

It’s worth mentioning that Marriott introduced similar policies before the pandemic. However, this was put on hold when Marriott extended the elite status gained in 2019 and 2020 until February 2023. This “light landing” gives Marriott elites a number of benefits to retain them until they can regain their desired status ranks this year.

Marriott Bonvoy mid- and senior-level elite members who are not eligible to return in 2022 will not leave empty-handed in 2023.

With Titanium Elite status, expired Ambassador Elite members will enjoy many of the same perks as their current status, including free breakfast at most brands, suite upgrades at check-in (including at Ritz-Carlton hotels), accrue 75% bonus points, selection benefits and United Premier Silver matching status. Platinum Elite also has many of the same benefits as Titanium Elite status offers.

You’ll see your new Marriott status and updated expiration date in early March.
