There has been a lot of chatter online over the past day as people share their thoughts on Malaysia’s decision to remove the road tax sticker and switch to a digital road tax system.
A lot of it is because of the difficulty of accessing the system – it seems that JPJ’s system is currently overloaded because everyone is trying to access it at the same time, but if you already have a road tax sticker it does not affect it for now. to you, maybe you can try again after the hype has subsided a bit.
Another part that gets everyone talking is the use of an app to display digital road tax and what happens if you don’t have a working phone with you.
This was actually mentioned in yesterday’s press conference, but since many people missed it, we thought maybe we should repeat it.
Enforcement officers will check if you have properly paid your road tax using your car’s license plate number, which is entered into an app on their device.
This means you don’t need to have a working phone with you to display your digital road tax. No need to make sure your phone has a battery or data plan. You don’t even need to keep a digital road tax print in your glove box.
And it doesn’t matter if the car is registered in someone else’s name, you don’t need the road tax of every car you drive to appear in your app because you simply don’t need the app.
It is the responsibility of the enforcement agency to present proof that you do not have a valid road tax. We do not have to provide proof that we have a valid road tax.
The road tax only appears in your app so you can keep track of whether you have a valid road tax. Otherwise, you may forget your expiration date.
