Make Rainbow Rice in 5 Minutes!

My daughter loves her sense box. For those of you who don’t know, sensory bins are bins or boxes filled with things that you can touch and feel very interesting, like sanduncooked beans, rice, pomsand more.

Then you give your child a series spoon and bowl and let them dig/sort/filter/pour their way through different textures.

I used to use uncooked white rice for Lola’s sensory game, but then I found that you can dye the rice in fun colors, and pretty quickly I knew it was time to make rainbow rice!

There are many ways to color rice, but I chose the super-fast version (it takes only 5 minutes to mix!) the longest, so I’ll show you what I did.

Munition:
-1 cup uncooked white rice
-1 teaspoon white vinegar
– food coloring (gel or frequent)
wax paper
– plastic baggs

Step 1. Place 1 cup of uncooked rice in a small plastic bag and add a few drops of food coloring to the bag. If using gel color, you will only need a little bit.

Step two. Put 1 teaspoon of white vinegar in the bag, seal the top and shake the bag so that the color mixture adheres to the rice.

Third step. When the colors are mixed, pour onto wax paper, spread thinly and let dry.

How long does dry rice take?

The rice will dry in under an hour, but you can also wait until the next day to use it.

I mixed it by hand a few times to make sure it was dry and not moldy before storing it in the box.

Can I Make Rainbow Rice Without Vinegar?

You can make rainbow rice by putting vinegar and adding a few drops of paint to the bag instead of food coloring. But adding vinegar will help preserve the rice longer and not get moldy.

I don’t really notice the vinegar smell when the rice dries (and I have a pretty sensitive nose), if you’re wondering.

It also seems like the method of coating the rice in a more opaque way while the dye looks a bit more opaque, so that’s also a visual preference.

How to preserve rainbow rice?

You can add your own rainbow rice a barrel feels like this when you want to play with it and then keep it in a closed box when not in use to preserve longevity.

I know some people who have had years of use from one batch, so can keep it for a long time. Can’t wait to have this rice to have fun afternoons! so so. Laura
