Liverpool and Real Madrid to meet in UCL 2022 Final four years after the previous UCL Final encounter

The 2022 UEFA Champions League Final has been set as Liverpool will go against Real Madrid for glory in Europe’s most elite club competition.

Indeed, the two teams will lock horns and go against each other on May 28, 2022, at the Stade de France in front of what will be an expected packed house as they look to win one of the most famous prizes in world soccer.

The match features two of the biggest and most successful clubs in the world, with the Spanish side the most decorated in the UCL, as they have won it a total of 13 times. Nonetheless, the English side has had its fair share of success in this competition over the decades it has been in existence, as the Premier League outfit has managed to win it on no fewer than six occasions, with its last being in 2019.

A repeat of the 2018 UCL Final

Those that are avid watches of soccer’s biggest club competition, though, will remember that a year prior to that win – where they defeated Tottenham Hotspur in an all-English final – Liverpool was beaten by Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League Final at the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium, ‎Kyiv.

Now, almost four years to the day following that defeat, Liverpool will be hoping to avenge the 3-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of Los Blancos and will be feeling confident about their chances of doing so.

Indeed, that night in Ukraine will be remembered by many because of the goalkeeping howlers that Loris Karius had, whilst others will remember Madrid’s second goal when Gareth Bale managed to score a well-executed bicycle kick and put the game 2-1 in favor of the Spaniards.

Nonetheless, this meeting will be extremely different compared to that encounter four years ago, with both teams looking a little different from how they were back then, whilst modern form will certainly have gambling enthusiasts who flock to a sports betting site in the US for all of their soccer wagering demands salivating in anticipation of kickoff on May 28.

How did we get to a Liverpool vs Real Madrid final?

Liverpool, arguably, had a straightforward path to the UCL 2022 Final this year, although Jurgen Klopp’s side did make things rather difficult for themselves at one moment.

The Reds eased past Inter and Benfica in the Round of 16 and quarterfinal stages, however they did make life difficult in each of the second legs that they competed in. Furthermore, the semifinal against Villarreal looked to be wrapped up by the end of the first game before a shocking first half in the second leg.

The Spanish side took the game to Liverpool, however, they managed to dominate the second half and get the goals required to progress.

Real Madrid has had to work extremely hard to get to the upcoming 2022 UEFA Champions League Final, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side having required extra time on a number of occasions.

They managed to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit to defeat Paris Saint-Germain with a Karim Benzema hat-trick before he replicated that in the very next match against Chelsea. However, this tie would end up going to extra time after Rodrygo netted late before the French forward once again came up trumps and scored the decisive goal.

Real Madrid would require additional time once again in the semifinal after they defeated Manchester City in a wild contest. The first game finished 4-3 and it seemed the English side would be returning to the final a year after being defeated by Chelsea, however the Spanish outfit managed to score two goals in the final moments of normal time via Rodrygo to force the game into extra time where Benzema netted a penalty to ensure Los Blancos would be heading to Paris instead of Pep Guardiola’s side.

What should we expect?

Naturally, there will be many wondering what we can expect to see when these two teams take to the field at the Stade de France on May 28, and it would be hard to predict what exactly will happen at the moment.

Real Madrid has already been crowned La Liga champions, whilst Liverpool continues to chase Man City for the Premier League title, whilst also having an FA Cup Final against Chelsea to think about.

What we can perhaps suggest, though, is that we should be guaranteed an exciting 2022 UEFA Champions League Final and one that will highlight just why so many continue to watch one of soccer’s biggest competitions.
