Live updates: Russia’s war in Ukraine

Local officials said parts of Ukraine lost power on Monday after they were hit by a devastating wave of Russian air strikes.

Serhii Hamalii, the regional head, said the Khmelnytskyi area, located west of Kyiv, had suffered a “major missile attack”, which damaged one of the region’s infrastructure. “Currently, there is no electricity supply, electric traffic is not working, water supply is suspended, traffic lights are not working.”

Closer to Kyiv, two rockets were launched at Zhytomyr, Governor Vitalii Bunechko said on Telegram. One was shot down but another hit a “critical infrastructure object,” Bunechko said, resulting in a partial disruption of power supply to the area.

East of the capital, Poltava region, central Ukraine also reported widespread power outages.

“This morning has been the most difficult in recent times. The Russians are attacking massively with missiles and kamikaze drones,” Dmytro Lunin, head of the regional military agency, said on Telegram.

“There is no electricity or water in Poltava right now… There may be power and water problems for a while, but all services are up and running to restore it.

Attacks on energy facilities are a tactic of a terrorist state that can only fight civilians,” he added.

“During the last airstrike, the enemy struck three times on the energy infrastructure in the Kremenchuk district,” Lunin said.

Deadly explosions across Ukraine on Monday target energy facilities and the people, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
