LIV Golf Mayakoba 2023 Leaderboard, Score: Charles Howell III Wins Title, Leads Crushers GC to Team Win
For the first time in more than four years, Charles Howell III scored a professional victory. Beating his Oklahoma state cowboys Peter Uihlein and Talor Gooch, along with attacking Branden Grace, Howell advanced into the winners’ circle at 2023 LIV Golf Mayakoba on Sunday.
Starting the third round, a forgotten guy in the last group, Howell hit the gas from the start. While the wave was created by Gooch’s departure from the 4 Aces and the subsequent addition of Uihlein, the stage belonged to Howell.
“Yes [I thought I had a good chance to win]”I’ve played here many times before and have an idea of what to expect upon arrival, but around this place there are two scam spots everywhere so you never know,” said Howell.
Playing his first 10 holes on Sunday with a 7 under, the 43-year-old quickly turned a one-stroke shortfall overnight into a four-stroke advantage. From there, Uihlein and Gooch didn’t mind Howell as a stress-free walk up to the age of 16.
Howell won not only as an individual but also as a member of Crushers GC. The team boat led by Bryson DeChambeau raced across the course at El Camaleon Golf Club, beating the runner-up by 4 ace nine strokes. Finishing the week in 26th under 26, the Crushers GC clinched their first title together after going through a number of close calls in 2022.
“It was amazing that we won for the team,” Howell said. “We were close last year and obviously you’re feeling it in that respect.” “To all the fans, to everyone who showed up, it’s been a great week.”
