Little Impact From Breeders’ Cup on World Rankings
The Breeders’ Cup World Championships didn’t make much of an impact on the 2023 World’s Best Racehorse Rankings, which released its latest update Nov. 9 for races from Jan. 1-Nov. 5.
Other than Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T) winner Auguste Rodin maintaining the 124 rating that keeps him in a tie for 10th in the World’s Best Racehorse Rankings, there wasn’t a Breeders’ Cup winner that appeared in the top 10. Shadwell Stable homebred Mostahdaf , a two-time group 1 winner this year who finished eighth in the Turf, maintained his previously earned rating of 128 to stay in a tie for second with Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) winner Ace Impact .
Topping the rankings is Japan-based standout Equinox , who earned his third grade 1 or group 1 win of the season Oct. 29 in the Tenno Sho Autumn. Campaigned by Silk Racing, Equinox is perfect in three starts this year after earning Horse of the Year honors in Japan last year.
Among prominent Breeders’ Cup winners, Classic (G1) victor White Abarrio improved his rating from 122 to 123 as he landed in a tie for 12th. That rating does make White Abarrio the top-rated dirt horse in the world. The 4-year-old son of Race Day is campaigned by C2 Racing Stable and La Milagrosa Stable.
Up to the Mark ‘s runner-up finish in the Turf saw his rating elevated from 121 to 122 and Shahryar joined this year’s rankings by earning a 121 rating in finishing third in the Turf.
