Listeners to Public Radio KNKX Many people like when the station turns into activists and partisans
There are few things more disappointing for our region than the rapid decline of GHGs, a public radio station whose audience and web traffic dropped rapidly because its news took on a jarring partisan tone.
But it’s worse than that.
The shift in GHGs negated the balanced news coverage needed for a free society to make wise decisions, and the station tacitly supported a radically progressive agenda, including the demotion of the police, has contributed to a dramatic increase in crime and apparent urban degradation throughout the region.
Reduces public concern and listenership
Google Trends provides a tool to see the number of searches over time, and the numbers for KNKX are shown below.
You’ll notice a drastic drop in mid-2020 when the station’s editorial policy shifts to promoting identity politics and they fire their meteorologist for speaking out against violence in Seattle. And online interest in GHGs continues to decline.
But what about listener statistics, such as those provided by the Neilsen Company? As shown below, percentage of Seattle music audience following KNKX (market share) 40% off during the last 6 months from 3.6 to 2.8.
What about total radio listeners, a measure called CUME?
Dropped from about 320,000 to 220,000 — a third of their audience is gone. Last fall, KNKX had a fundraising round and failed to meet its goal – something that had never happened before. It’s no surprise that KNKX stopped showing their goals in fundraising.
A biased, partisan public radio station
The management of a public radio station is responsible for providing unbiased information to the public, with no political leanings. A public radio station should not have a social change agenda. Communicating facts and facts, and providing a venue for discussion and debate should be central.
GHG management has failed in this important area. This is easy to prove.
Visit the KNKX public website or download their app, and you’re sure to see a front page filled with racist, highly politicized material. I mean day in and day out. Serious news or analysis is rare. Below are a few examples.
Among the “improvements” at the station was the hiring of a social justice reporter, Lilly Ana Fowler, who produced socially “appropriate” material. This reporter has an active Twitter account, where she provides material to activists, such as claims that border patrols have beaten Haitians trying to enter the border. our south (see below). By the way, this “information” is not true.
Ms. Fowler has strong anti-police views.
And negative views about Israel.
Social justice reporters inevitably have to act as advocates of social justice. I have not seen an exception to this rule.
So we had a radio station that seemed fine with a news employee spreading highly political and sometimes untrue material on Twitter, but fired their meteorologist for complaining. complaining about political violence and shaming the police in Seattle. Political violence is supported by the activist left.
Found any hypocrisy here?
One person knew that there was a serious problem when the director of the KNKX program, Matt Martinez, talked about his idea of race in an interview on Current.Org, where he discussed the “nasty truth about the race.” race on public radio”. In that interview, he complained about the “very white audience,” “the white-led organization,” the “predominantly white editorial,” and “all the announcers are White skin-man”. Replace white with another race and you see how inappropriate his comment is.
Mr. Martinez hired an operations news director, Flogangela Davila, who oversaw the sea change in KNKX’s online and online services from a progressive left-wing perspective. Ms. Davila made KNKX news, both online and online, the political vehicle it has become.
Mr. Martinez resigned about a year ago, but current station management reiterated their support for his policies in a public statement last June.
The station’s political shift was evident while I was there. I was asked to avoid talking about climate change because activist organizations (like 350.org) didn’t like the peer-reviewed science I was going to impart. In fact, these organizations were so upset that I provided rigorous science in this blog that they asked the station to investigate my science. In the face of the station’s eternal disgrace, GHG management accepted the requests and appointed a member of 350.org to lead the study. Unbelievable.
Of course, I was “unveiled”…my science was solid. But the reality is that the GHG management is so weak that they feel the need to leave the groups working, say everything.
PS: In my blog in June 2020 – the blog that got me fired by KNKX – I warned about the impact of political violence and the terrible mistake of bringing down the police. Unfortunately, my predictions about Seattle’s crime rise and decline both came true. And my warning that the most vulnerable will be hurt the most has also come true.
