Lincoln Corsair PHEV review, Polestar rollout, California drought and CO2 costs: Car News Today

Sales of Volvo plug-in models are growing and Polestar is adding a referral program, but it’s not like Tesla. California drought costs clean air. And we drive Lincoln’s non-electric plug-in hybrid. This and more, here at Green Car Report.

Electric cars are yet to come to Ford’s Lincoln luxury brand, but we recently drove the next closest thing: the Corsair Grand Touring plug-in hybrid. In one Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring reviewWe’ve found its approach to capturing the electric side does not exceed – but with some impressive numbers for hybrid gas and electric mileage savings.

According to a recent report by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), prolonged drought in California will increase the carbon cost of electricity that EVs plug in. About 15% of the state’s electricity comes from hydroelectricity with normal rainfall, but that drops to 8% in a year of drought.

Volvo has been developing its own plug-in vehicles. Nationally, Plug-in Charge models — EVs and plug-in hybrids combined — topped 35% of sales in the United States. And in California three out of four Volvos sold now have a charging port.

Polestar coming soon a referral program for its EVs. But don’t expect anything close to the $1,000 deals and free cars for top referrers that Tesla used to pass up.
