Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe gave a recent Oscar De La Hoya interview with FightHype Where the Golden Boy proclaimed Gervonta “The Tank” Davis, an arch-rival for De La Hoya’s role as protector, Ryan Garcia is not a pay-per-view character. “Gervonta Davis may be getting pay-per-view but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s selling hundreds, hundreds of thousands of homes,” De La Hoya said. “I have seen the numbers. I know what they are I know that they are less than 100,000. I know it’s real.”

Suffice it to say, Ellerbe, who ran the ad shop representing Davis, was unimpressed. “Tank has made significantly over 100k buys in EVERY of his PPV matches,” he tweeted. “Oscar is trying to do all it can to NOT start a war and it’s time to expose the truth. This is a terrible look at Ryan and his promoters.” Essentially, De La Hoya argued that both Davis and Garcia were equally attractive, an assertion that Ellerbe disagreed with.

“Oscar insisting that Tank and Ryan are equal is bullshit and anyone who might add it knows it,” Ellerbe tweeted. “In Ryan’s last match at the live gate he raised $1,126,155.00 and in that same bldg Tank raised $3,525,855.00. That’s less than a third, how is that equal? While it was clear Ellerbe had issues with De La Hoya, he made the point to affirm his belief that Garcia himself wanted to be in the ring with Davis.

“Ryan said he wanted to fight Tank,” Ellerbe announced, “he told everyone that and I believe him. He needs to get his promoter in line ASAP, this is a horrible look for him!! “Ellerbe went on to suggest that the media should get involved in the issue. “We will see if all the media call him (De La Hoya) bullshit. It’s not hard to make a deal if you’re really trying to make a deal for a big fight.”

Of course, fans would love to see the fight between Davis and Garcia done. Both men are colorful, popular and extremely talented. They are also fun to watch and have undefeated records. Although world-renowned racing driver Davis will (or should) be the favorite, less-experienced Garcia is more than just a swashbuckler. Like Davis, he hit like a cannon. Simply put, every man is young and knows how to turn off the lights.
