Terence Crawford believes he has exhausted all of his options.
Before officially lifting to 147 pounds in 2018, the Omaha, Nebraska native saw a major clash with sterling star, Errol Spence Jr. Longtime rival and despite claiming to be one of the best boxers in the world, fast forward four years and their competition is no longer near a reality.
Though Crawford wanted nothing more than to prove he was the best 147-pound athlete in the world, when the WBO chief sat back and thought to himself, he simply had no idea how he was. We can get Spence Jr into the ring.
“I wanted that fight,” Crawford said in an interview with Behind The Gloves. “If it happens, it will happen, I have been calling for that fight for years. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. I’ve been through all the people they put in front of me. I couldn’t see what else I could do.”
Now, the undefeated uniformweight champion will return to the ring on April 16, against another 147-pound belt holder, WBA champion, Yordenis Ugas. The two are officially scheduled to go head to head at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Admittedly, Crawford will be a keen observer tonight. Finally, if Crawford can’t unify the titles against the winner of Spence vs. Ugas, he won’t bow. Instead, he will aim to win every world title at £154.
“If I can’t get a Spence/Ugas winner, I’d love to get Jermell [Charlo] and [Brian] Winner Castano. I can be without question at 154.”
Until recently, both Jermell Charlo, who holds the 154-pound WBC, WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine titles, and Brian Castano, who owns the 154-pound WBO crown, were scheduled to go head-to-head on May 19. 3, at Crypto. com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
