Lensrentals announces program to buy used photo and video gear: Digital Photography Review

If you love the equipment you rent Lensrentals, you now have the option to purchase directly, no need to send it back. Lensrentals has announced two purchase programs, Keeper and Keeper Test Drive.

Programs, both available through Procedure page on Lensrentals, allowing customers to purchase pre-owned inventory that has been refurbished, inspected, graded, and valued by the Lensrentals sales team. The grades range from 1 (special) to 4 (deficiency), and products are graded for cosmetic quality, performance, and glass quality if available. In some cases, the list also shows how much a product has been used. For example, on the Canon EOS C300 EF Cinema Camera listing, you can see how many hours have been recorded on units available for sale.

On the pages for products that are available for sale, there is now a “Buy” button next to the pre-existing “Rent” button. Product pages for pre-owned products will look familiar to experienced Lensrentals customers. Each page has links to the necessary technical data and user manuals, specifications and internal summaries of the product.

Used lenses are also classified by optical quality. Click here to enlarge.

If you still want to try before you buy, the new Keeper Test Drive program is for you. You can rent equipment and if you like, you contact the Lensrentals team and get a single price. You can also deduct up to seven days of rental fees from the final purchase price.

‘We have maintained the highest reliability of video and imaging equipment, with the lowest equipment failure rates in the industry, by making our technicians work extremely hard to check equipment inspection, cleaning, and repair before and after each rental, and that now extends to purchases from Lensrentals through the Keeper programs,’ said Drew Cicala, vice president and co-owner of Lensrentals for know. ‘Consumers want peace of mind that the used equipment they purchase has been well maintained and is fit for its intended purpose. And this is exactly what Lensrentals Keeper Test Drive is built for. Customers can rent the device, try it out, and if they like it – keep it and we’ll remove the rental cost for up to seven days from the final sale price. With that Test Drive purchase, users knew the device was what they needed and received Lensrentals’ high-quality product care. ‘

For still cameras, usage is shown through the number of shutters. Click here to enlarge.

Customers were previously able to purchase used equipment from LensAuthority, a sister site to Lensrentals. LensAuthority will eventually stop working when Lensrentals finishes its transition to Lensrentals Keeper. If you’d like to browse the current used gear for sale at Lensrentals, click here.
