The joy of building without the mess
LEGO video games will always hold a special place in my heart – some of my fondest gaming memories are of my siblings and I playing through Lego star wars Game at our neighbor’s house. Looking back, though, those licensed LEGO games leave me scratching my head, because while the branding was right, only a small portion of the game was allotted for the actual construction, which is the whole appeal of the brand. Thanks to the newly announced LEGO BricktalesEven so, the building is about to re-enter the company’s construction-focused canon gaming in a whole new way.
LEGO Bricktales is a physics-based puzzle game, and looking through its announcement trailer from the Future Games Show Spring Showcase, it looks like a lot of fun. The game is being developed by Clockstone Studio, the company best known for creating the hit indie game. Bridges series. The trailer shows a series of scenarios where the player is asked to build an object (apparently from LEGO) to help complete a quest. The player will then be given a number of puzzle pieces to build their object, and when the construction is complete, the player can run simulations to see if the object behaves as intended.
It’s a simple premise, at least from what we can tell so far, but sometimes the simplest concepts make up games that players will immerse themselves in for hundreds of hours. After watching the trailer, some people likened the game’s mechanics to Kerbel . Space Programand I feel that’s a pretty fitting comparison.
LEGO Bricktales will release sometime in 2022 and I personally can’t wait to try this colorful, adorable, and potentially challenging little puzzle game.
