Franken is a fun, free, refreshing RPG that you can complete in less than an hour
And it’s worth every minute
You don’t have to grow up on classics like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest dig Franken, a familiar but new indie RPG, but it will be useful. The game is playable on PC via itch.ioand me high recommend it as a super-miniature yet satisfying experience. I admit, this is one of those “less you know better” situations.
Created by splendid land, Franken inspired by Final Fantasy IV, Moon, For Frog the Bell Tollsand RPG Development, among others. It’s a classic RPG format stripped of its bare essentials and it’s very well framed. The quirky enigmatic characters are still trying to intrigue and sabotage me, and the combat system in the last note is still strangely enjoyable.
In FrankenIn turn based matches all you can do is attack and you don’t need to heal after battles – so it’s kill or be killed, and no menu based busywork or Unnecessarily meandering worlds. The story is clear from the start – the mighty Hell Knights must be stopped – but it goes to unexpected places. The name *will* make sense.
How many times have I lost track of silly NPC chatter, a catchy gag, or an out-of-the-ordinary song selection that made me laugh. I had a smile on my face more often than not.
The game has drifted into my timeline thanks a retweet from Spelunky creator Derek Yu, and I’m just going to look at it, not the whole thing. Sorry.
After the end FrankenI saw that Dunkey recently made a video about it, though I recommend playing it for yourself if it even seems remotely appealing to your sensibilities. For what it’s worth, I’m really not an old school Dragon Quest sorta guy!
Franken is a complete RPG in an hour or less subversive package and it stipulates.
