Lee Zeldin, Republican Candidate for Governor of NY, Attacked at Event
Representative Lee ZeldinRepublican candidate for governor of New York, was attacked on Thursday at a campaign event in western New York by a man with a sharp object pulling him to the ground before being shot. several other men submitted, according to officials and a video of the attack. Mr. Zeldin was not hurt, a campaign representative said.
The video shows Mr. Zeldin, speaking from the bed of a van, speaking to supporters gathered in a parking lot in Perinton, NY, as a man approaches him slowly from the side. right before trying to pull Mr. Zeldin down with his arm. Mr Zeldin responded by grabbing the man’s wrist and was then joined by several men to stop the attacker.
A spokesman for Mr Zeldin’s campaign said in a statement released after the attack that he and members of his campaign were safe.
“More needs to be done to make New York safe again,” the spokeswoman, Katie Vincentz, said, placing the attack in the context of Mr. “This is getting out of hand in this situation. Unfortunately, Congressman Zeldin is just the latest New Yorker whose lives have been affected by the crime of out of control.”
