Stonestreet Stables and coach Steve Asmussen will have a special $300,000 repeat opportunity Rachel Alexandra Stakes presented by Fasig-Tipton (G2) on February 19 at Fair Grounds & Slots. Last year, Connections teamed up to win the Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) prep race with Clairiere and on Saturday they will send their half-sister, La Crete .
Undefeated in two opening matches, La Crete had a victory over the New Orleans rugby tournament. On January 22, she fought on the front lines for a long-running victory at Silverbulletday Staking.
“She’s a little bit more advanced than Clairiere at the beginning,” assistant coach Scott Blasi said of La Crete. “But when it comes to working and training for a race, they’re very similar.”

Asmussen has won Rachel Alexandra six times, the first with Summer (2005), followed by Attractive Zophie (2007), Echoes of War (2009), Can’t touch (2014), Limited (2020), and last year with Claire. Both Summerly and Untapable won the Kentucky Oaks. The race was held under the name Silverbulletday Stakes from 2001-10.
1/16-mile Rachel Alexandra, named for 2009’s Horse of the Year, who trained by Asmussen for Stonestreet, will provide qualifying Oaks scores on a 50-20-10-5 scale for four finish first.

The Medaglia d’Oro filly will take a break from lesson 4.
Ike and Dawn Thrash’s Turnerloose will race on the main track for the first time since the grass campaign at 2. Coached by Brad Cox, Nyquist won the aristocratic minor share award at Kentucky Downs and ranked third in JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes (G2T) favorites after setting the pace. By Chris Walsh California Angel who let Jessamine down with 17-1 odds, will see her again at Rachel Alexandra.
Turnerloose last played at Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1T) for the 14th time. California Angel, by California Chrome , most recently the sixth in Untapable for coach George Leonard III. Florent Geroux stays on Turnerloose from lesson 7 and Deshawn Parker picks a mount on California Angel from lesson 10.
